In Copenhagen, one of Europe’s most expensive cities, a new initiative rewards tourists for their green and climate-friendly actions in concrete ways.
In this program, called CopenPay, you can win prizes at attractions in Copenhagen, ranging from a free lunch or a cup of coffee to a free kayak tour or free entrance to a museum. All you need to do is, for example, cycle instead of driving, help protect the city, work in a city garden or pledge sustainable behavior. The program is supported by Wonderful Copenhagen, Copenhagen’s tourism organization.
Valid from July 15th to August 11th, 2024, it is aimed to reduce carbon emissions in the city and achieve a greener city. A smart solution given the growing backlash against tourism around the world.
For example, those arriving in CopenHill by bike or train will be able to descend for free from an artificial ski slope built on a new waste management center. At other locations, visitors will be offered the opportunity to participate in the cleanup as volunteers. The National Gallery of Denmark will organize workshops on transforming plastic waste into works of art, while the Copenhagen Surf School will offer free lunch to surfers who participate in a 30-minute beach cleanup after their surfing course. More than 20 attractions will participate in the pilot program over the summer.
Level Six Rooftop Bar & Terrace rewards visitors arriving by bike or public transportation with a refreshing glass of wine, draft beer or soda on the sunny terrace overlooking Nørreport Station and Copenhagen cityscape.
Or pick up trash at the BaneGaarden garden and get free organic food. 29, 30, 31 and 32. weeks from Monday to Wednesday from 12.00 to 18.00, everyone can participate in the cleanup initiative and help protect Danish nature.
