Just a few kilometers off the coast of Kaş district in Antalya, lies Kastellorizo, or Meis as we know it, the easternmost and most remote island of Greece. Situated between two natural harbors, this island, with its charming and colorful streets, moves slowly but possesses a profound tranquility that touches your soul.
Meis might be too small an island to spend days alone, but if you’ve come all the way to Kaş, you should definitely make a stop here. We left this charming island, which we visited for the first time, very happy; it’s a true sanctuary for those who want to escape the hustle and bustle.
You can reach the island in a very short time by ferry departing from Kaş.
The trips are operated by different companies between 09:30 and 10:00 in the morning, and the journey takes only about 20 minutes.

Ticket prices: €30 per person for same-day return, €40 if returning on a different day.
Meis has a wonderful atmosphere in spring and summer. The island is truly enjoyable during sunrise and sunset, so the spring months, or early/late summer before the extreme heat sets in, are ideal times to explore it at a relaxed pace.
Most visitors to the island opt for day trips, arriving in the morning and returning on the 4 pm ferry. However, if you have the time and are looking for true tranquility, we think you should definitely stay at least one night. After the day-trippers leave, the island takes on a completely different and much more peaceful character from sunset onwards. Experiencing the evening calm is the real secret of this island. This is actually true for all the islands; you can access our Symi guide, our favorite among the Dodecanese, here, and other Greece guides here.

We chose to stay at My Crown Suites (@mycrown_suites), one of the most peaceful houses we’ve ever stayed in during this trip. Located right next to the shops and museums at the end of the harbor, this two-bedroom, three-bathroom stone house opens directly onto the sea. You can jump into the crystal-clear waters right in front of the house and even occasionally encounter sea turtles while swimming.
The house is fully equipped with everything you might need, from kitchenware to beach towels. The interior is decorated with works by Greek artists, adding a unique character to the place. The location is fantastic; right next door is Kavos Bar, one of the island’s most popular spots. You can even order your coffee, wine, or snacks to your home and enjoy the view from the comfort of your own veranda. It’s a perfect choice for those who want to combine the island’s natural simplicity with comfort.

While the food is generally up to Greek island standards, prices are slightly higher compared to other Aegean islands because there is no farmland on the island and most ingredients are brought in from other islands. Nevertheless, prices are considerably lower than in Turkey.
Things to see and Activities
Big part of the island consists of uninhabited mountainous terrain, but there are wonderful sights to discover around the harbour and out at sea:
Note to movie lovers: Before or while you’re on Meis Island, don’t forget to watch Mediterraneo, the 1992 Oscar-winning film for Best Foreign Language Film, which was filmed entirely on the island! Even just seeing how slowly life moves here is a pleasure.
